Hunter Douglas Cellular Shades
Formerly called honeycomb shades, cellular shades have a modern, attractive shape designed to trap hot air and improve energy usage. They’re made from fabric panels sewn into a honeycomb-shaped cell. These cells fill with hot air that tries to pass through your window, slowly filling and pressing tight against the glass. This creates a layer of insulation that boosts heat transfer by forcing the hot air to stay where it is. It can increase your home’s energy efficiency by about 40% if you get them on every window, significantly reducing your energy bill.
Cellular window shades are also aesthetically pleasing. The shape has a modern and contemporary style with clean lines that fit many interior design styles. The materials are varied but can include up to 50% recycled materials and are available in numerous colors, patterns, designs, and opacities.
Benefits of Cellular Shades for Windows
Energy Efficiency
Cellular shades feature a patented cellular design structure with open fabric pockets to trap air. This trapped air remains in the shade and provides extra insulation for your windows, similar to how dual-paned glass traps air between the layers for insulation. The added insulation helps you maintain temperature control and saves you money on energy bills.
Noise Reduction
Cellular shades’ insulating air pockets improve noise control in your home. If your home is on a loud street or you live near an airport or train tracks, they can reduce the noise entering your home. Cellular shades also help with the acoustics in your home, making them an excellent choice for media rooms and bedrooms.
Light Control
Hunter Douglas Cellular shades provide excellent light control because they can be raised and lowered to any height. You can choose from several fabric opacities to control how much light comes through when the shade is closed. These other features also improve light control:
The LightLock™ system features unique U-shaped channels that block out nearly 100% of incoming light, creating dark spaces for watching movies or sleeping.
The DuoLite® feature combines two independently operated shades onto one window, so you can choose two different fabric opacities and easily switch between or combine them.
The Top-Down/Bottom-Up operating system allows you to open your cellular shades from the top or bottom of the window frame.
Hunter Douglas PowerView® Automation makes your window treatments even more practical and improves light control, privacy, and security.
Custom Fit For Every Window
Hunter Douglas cellular window shades can fit any window shape in your home, including arches, skylights, trapezoids, and odd angles. You can choose vertical or horizontal orientation, and each shade can be opened and closed even in circular and octagonal windows.
Customizable Design
Our collection of cellular shades can fit any interior design style. There are dozens of fabric options in an array of colors and patterns. You can choose to have the same fabrics used throughout your home or pick several different colors to complement the style of each room.
Hunter Douglas has three distinct styles of cellular shades.
Hunter Douglas Duette® Cellular Shades: Our most popular cellular shade, they’re our most energy-efficient standard design.
Hunter Douglas Duette® Architella® Cellular Shades: Our most energy-efficient window shades as they feature a double row of cells.
Hunter Douglas Sonnette® Roller Shades: These shades combine the energy-saving technology of cellular shades with the ease of a roller shade.
